Biju Menon in ‘Leela’?

Director Ranjith has roped in Biju Menon to play the lead in his next movie which is an adaptation of R Unni’s short story “Leela”.

Earlier the names of Mammootty and Sankar Ramakrishnan were heard for the role. The movie is titled ‘Leela: the Never Ending Play’.

The script and dialogues are penned by Unni R. This is for the first time that Ranjith is directing a movie not scripted by him.

‘Leela’ is the story of the relationship of the mahout Kuttiyappan and the orphan girl Leela. Biju Menon will play the role of Kuttiyappan. The female lead is not finalized.

‘Leela: the Never Ending Play’ will be produced by Ranjith himself under the banner of Capitol Theatres.

Vineeth Kumar’s Ayal Njanalla completed

ayal-njanallaThe shooting of the romantic comedy film ‘Ayal Njanalla’ is complete. The movie is the debut directorial venture of actor Vineeth Kumar.

‘Ayal Njanalla’ scripted by Ranjith features Fahad Fazil and Mridula Murali in the lead roles. Divya Pillai and Akshat Singh also do prominent roles.

Renji Panicker, T G Ravi, Sreekumar, Tiny Tom, Nobi, Dinesh, Sijoy Varghese, Jins Bhaskar, Susheel Kumar, Dinesh Nair, Anil Kumar, and J K Nair also include the cast.

Gujarat and Bangalore are the main locations. ‘Ayal Njanalla’ is produced by Dr T A Sundar Menon under the banner of Sun Ads & Film Productions.

Director Ranjith’s Mohanlal film named ‘Loham’

Ranjith-MohanlalWriter-director Ranjith and Mohanlal will team up in a new film, which has been titled Loham.

Andrea Jeremiah is the heroine. The shooting of the film will take place at Kozhikode, Kochi and Dubai.

Ranjith had originally announced Manju Warrier’s comeback film, with Mohanlal as the hero. However that project never happened. The director came out with the Dulquer Salmaan starrer Njan that failed to make much impression.

Another project with Jayaram in the lead was also announced and that has now been postponed as well. There are rumours doing the rounds that Mohanlal is playing a “larger than life” hero in the mould of some of Ranjith’s earlier films but it has no confirmation as yet.

Director Ranjith once again with Mohanlal

If the industry updates are to be believed, Mohanlal is all set to team up with director Ranjith once again. The film will start rolling soon.

And then, speculations are rife that Manju Warrier will play the heroine in the film. Mohanlal and Manju are currently playing the lead in Sathyan Anthikkad’s new film, the shooting of which is now nearing completion.

In fact it was producer Antony Perumbavoor who had met Manju Warrier first, when she announced her plans to return to acting. A project was announced soon after, which had Mohanlal and Manju in the lead. But it didn’t happen and Manju then acted in Rosshan Andrrews’ How Old Are You.

Though the reports have not been confirmed as yet, sources suggest that the talks have started again. At least for now, it is almost certain that Mohanlal and Ranjith are teaming up once again, in the film that is being produced by Antony Perumbavoor’s Ashirvad Cinemas.

Blockbuster Movie Narasimham re-released on December 5th

Mohanlal starrer classic action thriller, Narasimham is all set to be re-released on December 5th. The makers decided to re-release Narasimham to celebrate the 15th year of grand success. The Film was originally released on January 26, 2000. The movie is scripted by scenarist-director Ranjith and directed by Shaji Kailas.

Narasimham was a huge commercial success and went on to become the highest grosser of 2000. The fans and media are all excited about the re-release of the movie and is looking forward to a screening in Kerala. The biggest surprise of the movie was the cameo appearance by Mammootty, in the role Adv Nandagopal Marar. The actor received highly positive reviews for his electrifying performance. The makers even planned a movie with the character by Mammootty, but the project didn’t materialize due to some unknown reasons.

Prithviraj to play freedom fighter K Madhavan

Actor Prithviraj will play the life of legendary freedom fighter K Madhavan, who played an active role in Salt Satyagraha held at Payyannur and also in the Guruvayoor temple entry agitation. The film will be directed by acclaimed filmmaker Ranjith.

Ranjith announced his plans to make a film on the life of K Madhavan at a function recently. He has said that such a biopic will not have much commercial ingredients and the support of all is required for the venture.

The Public Relations Department has earlier made a documentary on the life of K Madhavan.

Mammootty’s ‘Bavuttiyude Namathil’

Malabar, scripted by Ranjith and directed by G S Vijayan with Mammootty as the hero, will have a new name now.

The film has now been titled Bavuttiyude Namathil. The film is being made under the banner of Ranjith’s Capitol Theatre.

Kavya Madhavan plays the heroine. The shooting will start soon.

The grapevine has it that Mammotty is keenly looking forward to the film to make a big comeback to his winning ways.

Thappana, his latest release, has got mixed response. Mammootty’s next release will be Jawan of Vellimala, directed by debutant Anoop Kannan.

Mammootty In Malabar
