Ranjitha returns with Puthumughangal

After she was dragged into the sleazy Swami sex scandal in March last year, popular South Indian actress Ranjitha was seen only once on the big screen! It was in ace Mani Ratnam’s mega movie Raavanan. Remember, the makers of Raavanan initially decided to remove and re-shoot her portion in the film, but eventually retained her scenes?

Anyway, after Raavanan, Ranjitha is now making her second appearance on the big screen with a Malayalam movie titled Puthumughangal, which is set to release soon. Sources say that Puthumughangal was supposed to hit screens last year, but got delayed due to Ranjitha’s sex scandal and consequent delay in completing her portions.

This film is jointly directed by Dawn Alex and Biju and produced by Salavuddin. The story is penned by Prakash Payyoly. Pradeep Kavunthara has written the screenplay and dialogues. Lyrics are by Vayalar Saratchandra Varma and Ramesh Kavil. Music is by Syam Dharman. Also in the cast are Thushar, Sarassi, Ameera, Silsila, Salimkumar, Harisree Asokan, Lalu Alex and Githa.

Traffic – The first release of 2011

Malayalam industry is having great expectations for 2011.

And the first release of the year is Traffic. The movie releasing tomorrow is said to be a pathbreaking film.

Directed by Rajesh Pillai, it has a huge star cast which includes Sreenivasan,  Kunchakko Boban , Vineeth Sreenivasan,  Rahman,  Asif,  Anup Menon,  Roma, Kathal Sandhya etc. But the real hero is said to be the screenplay by Bobby and Sanjay brothers.

The story is about the incidents happening in the life of some strangers who accidentally meet in a traffic jam.

The box office performance of the film will play a huge role in increasing the quality of Malayalam movies in 2011.

Ajmal as prince in Lucky Joker

After a gap of two years, upcoming young Tamil-Malayalam actor Ajmal is playing a meaty role in Malayalam.

The actor, who was last seen in Pranayakalam, said that he would play the role of a prince in Lucky Joker, directed by Sunil and produced by Aascar Ravichandran. Lucky Joker is Aascar Ravichandran’s debut production venture in Malayalam.

“The film is an action adventure and focuses on the hunt for a diamond. I play the prince of Kerala (also a racer), who returns to his land to hunt for a diamond given to his ancestors by the king of Nepal thousands of years ago. The diamond can restore peace in the world. How the prince finds the diamond’s whereabouts is what the movie is all about,” Ajmal said.

To be shot in Malaysia, Nepal and Kerala, this big budget film has music by M. Jayachandran and camera by Dharani.

Renji Panicker to direct ‘Judgement Day’

Script writer turned director Renji Panicker would direct a film titled ‘Judgment Day’ with Suresh Gopi in the lead role.

Suresh Gopi would play Ramdas, a criminal lawyer in this action thriller. There would be no dearth of spine chilling action sequences and fiery dialogues in the film.

Sarath Kumar would also play an important role in the film. This would be the second time when Sarath Kumar and Suresh Gopi work together. They had earlier shared screen space in ‘Christian Brothers’.

Its learned that Renji has penned a murder mystery for his new directorial venture. The shoot of the film would start once ‘The King v/s The Commissioner’, that would be scripted by Renji and directed by Shaji Kailas is complete.

Mamta as Mukesh’s heroine

Mamtha Mohandas was undoubtedly the person of the year in 2010. The actress who became the favourite of every magazines following her revelations about the survival from cancer, also was seen in some of the best roles of the year. The best heroine role of the year was also done by her in Sathyan Anthikkad’s ‘Katha Thudarunnu’ which ran to success. She was also seen in good roles in films like ‘Anwar’ and ‘Thriller’, which came out in the second half of the year.

The actress will be soon as the heroine to Mukesh in the new movie ‘Gruhanathan’, to be directed by Mohan Kupleri. The movie will also feature Siddiq, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Jagathy Sreekumar, Mamukkoya, Indrans, Kalpana and Bindu Panicker in other important roles.

‘Gruhanathan’ would be produced by Neythalath Suchitra under the banner of Gurupurnima.
